Doll Care Advice
I wanted to talk to you about doll care because an important part about owning the doll is properly caring and keeping it from depreciating in value. I’m not going to list all the things that tend to happen to dolls, but a few are that the plastic can crack, clothes can get stained, body parts become loose, etc. Obviously there needs to be some sort of care provided to have such an item last for a while. Avoid Temperature Extremes If the doll is moving from areas where the temperature is hot to places where the temperature is cold, than the chances of experiencing cracking of the plastic body is greatly improved. It comes down to the fact that heat causes it to expand and cold causes it to contract. What tends to happen is that the outside will grow or shrink at a faster rate than the plastic on the inside. This creates a lot of stress and you end up with cracking. Coating the Inside of Body Parts Any doll that you fear will break or crack open can be protected. You can typically pop off the head, arms and legs. What you can do is coat(paint) the inside walls of each body part with glue or paint. The idea here is that you’re going to increase the structure’s strength from the inside out. This can really prevent a lot of cracks and it is a relatively simple thing that you only have to do one time. Clean Clothing from Time to Time Just as you are expected to wear clean clothes, so is the doll. I would say that with all the touching that a doll would recieve every day, that would easily make their clothes dirtier than your own. But we have to be realistic. Keeping the clothes clean will help you keep the actual doll clean. It’s very easy for stains to get on the actual doll and it is very hard to get them out. Take Extra Care of Rubber Dolls The reason that you have to take extra care is that if you break something, there really is no way to repair it. I’m not going to say that there are no ways, but it would probably be expensive and time consuming. Typically what you have to do is go out and buy new parts. It seems a lot easier to just take my doll care advice and just be careful with it.
