I wanted to take the time to do a little post containing doll repair tips. Obviously you might run into a doll that doesn’t work properly and needs to be fixed. It’s just an inevitability of owning such a doll. They can be pretty fragile and I know a lot of them that have moving parts (like eyes) can easily run into various problems. I thought I could share some tips with you that could greatly help you out.

Hard Plastic Cracks and Breaks

Getting hard plastic cracks can be a little discouraging because most people assume that they should just throw the doll out. I know I used to think that way because I wasn’t sure of anyway to repair such cracks, but it really isn’t that hard.

For a crack, you want to make sure that the area around it is clean. If it is broken into two parts, just make sure it’s clean too. At this point you want to put nailpolish on the crack and push it tight. As long as it holds tight for a period of 24 hours it will completely make the crack disappear. For broken parts it is a little more challenging. You have to put nail polish on each side of the broken pieces and push them tightly together. This will also have to sit for a period of 24 hours and be tight. For broken, you might have to use a vice to hold the plastic together tightly.

Rubber Repairs

I’m sorry. Just because the way rubber is, there really isn’t much you can do about it from a home environment. There is really no doll repair available and all you can really do is purchase new parts for it.

Practicing

Obviously after you do one repair successfully, you can do a lot more. Instead of testing it out on an important doll first, try and pick up a similar one at a yard sale or thrift store. This way you can experiment and test out how you do the first time, so when you get to the real doll that you won’t have to learn anything.

Making Fingers

It surprisingly isn’t that hard to make a finger. All you have to do is use plastic wood around a wire. Once you got something that resembles a finger, all you have to do is sand it down and make it look proper (like painting).

These are a few doll repair tips that you can start to use to fix up an old doll that has broken in some way. It really isn’t that hard to fix as long as you know what to do. Remember to try it out on a practice doll first just to make sure that you know what you’re doing.
